It had been almost a year since Brodee and I had gone to the temple together, because of our precious little baby so I got the idea to surprise him and just drive to the temple one day when he didn't have to work. Well of course he didn't have a day off until after the new year and of course our temple recommends expire the last day of December so on Monday I told him that I had a surprise for him and that he should use his sick hours at work on Tuesday so that the "surprise" could happen. He threatened me telling me that he wouldn't get off work unless I told him what we were doing, but I REFUSED!
I was determined to not let him find out what we were doing because he ALWAYS figures everything out, so I asked Shari the day before if I could drop Bentley off with her on our way out. And then that morning while he was in the shower I packed up all our church clothes in the truck and covered them with pillows and blankets so that he would think we were doing something outside.
So we dropped Bentley off and then I let him drive and told him we were going to Mesa, on the way up he was trying to guess but totally never did, and I was kind of surprised because the temple came up in our convo so I thought he was going to figure it out.
When we first got there we went to Red Lobster to eat because it was HIS day and we never go there because I'm not a fan of fish. Well while we were eating I told him I would give him a hint of where we were going and I showed him one of his black socks, but he didn't get it because he pretty much always wears black socks, so then I told him that we hadn't done this in like 9 months and he still couldn't figure it out, so then I told him it had to do with something in his wallet and he FINALLY guessed. He couldn't believe it had been that long since we had gone.
So we went and got changed into our church clothes at the garment place and then when we got into the temple a guy came up to us and asked if we wanted to do sealings so of course we said yes, I was really excited to do them because when we got married my mind was else where and I couldn't remember anything that was said and also it was perfect timing because our 2 year anniversary is a few weeks away. It was really cool kneeling across the alter with Brodee again and even though it wasn't for us it was still a good reminder of the promises we made. Also It felt SO good knowing that we were making it possible for families to be together forever.
Afterwards we walked around the Temple and looked at the Christmas displays and when we got to the nativity scene there was no baby Jesus in the manger...I guess somebody stole it. Dumb huh?

Hey Taryn! Two things first: your little girl is so adorable! What a sweet little baby! And second, this was a great post! Sam and I went and did sealings for our first anniversary and we loved it. We thought that sealing families together forever was a perfect way to celebrate our own marriage! Congrats on your own upcoming anniversary!
Aww what a nice surprise, I think the last time Mike and I went to the temple was the last time you guys went!! (well before now!) We need to take a trip back...I can't wait till ours is built and we won't have to drive very far, even though it is fun to get out of town and eat somewhere nice every once in a while :)
thats so neat I want to do that. maybe they put jesus in the manger on christmas?
What a neat surprise. With kids it just keeps getting harder and harder to make it to the Temple. But, that is neat that you MADE the time!!! What a cute couple you two are. Bentley is adorable. Have a Merry Christmas
Hey there! I went to school with Brodee. From preschool on up to senior year! My sister and I are nurses and we both worked at Mt. Graham when you had your baby and found out right away from Al! Looks like you all are doing great! Its so good to see whats going on. Your baby is adorable!
Smart girl! That is the best way to celebrate an anniversary. When we go we have been asked to be the witness couple sometimes. Last March we went for our 30th and they asked us. Being the shlurps we are, we thought he must have cued in on it being a special day, blah, blah, blah. He came up and thanked us after the session and we told him how it was special to us ... and then we found out he asked us because we looked the spry-est of everyone gathering in the chapel ;-). OH well, at least we were flattered!
